Over the past few weeks, NCO staff have been exploring the multiple ways in which we can continue to support, engage and connect with the young musicians in our programme during these exceptional times.

For the senior orchestra musicians, who have had their spring residencies cancelled, we are offering the opportunity to take part in exclusive online Q&A sessions hosted by Catherine Arlidge, NCO’s Artistic and Educational Director, and special guest artists.

We are very excited to announce that the first session will be with saxophonist Jess Gillam and the second will be with cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and his family! We can’t wait to hear what the young stars have been up to and look forward to asking them the burning questions that NCO’s young musicians want to know.

NCO was thrilled when Jess Gillam joined the organisation in August 2019 as Artist in Residence during the Main Orchestra summer residency. We documented the journey in a film which you can view here. Most recently, Jess has set up the Jess Gillam Virtual Scratch Orchestra which you can read about here. Sheku Kanneh-Mason, and his entire family of incredible musicians, have not been far out of the spotlight over the past few years. Notably he performed at the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018 and he has just released a new album, Elgar, with label, Decca Classics.
