The final performance of 2019 was a sold-out success!
Main Orchestra were met with rapturous applause and a standing ovation as they played the final bars of Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 at Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall on Sunday evening (Sunday 8 December).
The Winter Concert would be - for the majority of the orchestra - their final performance as NCO members before they graduate to make way for a new generation of young musicians.
Dominic Wheeler conducted the orchestra for a beautiful rendition of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade in the first half of the concert. The baton was passed to Jonathan Bloxham for the Mahler finale.
Praise for the young musicians flooded in immediately through social media accounts.
“That’s what 5 years of outstanding education, commitment, musical discovery and life-long friendship sounds like,” commented Kate Romano.
“Unbelievably good playing,” added Peter Bellingham.
