Be part of NCO’s spectacular summer concert season as you witness the country’s most talented young musicians take to the stage for a stunning programme of events.
Our six age-banded orchestras will be working tirelessly during their summer residential courses, perfecting their repertoire, as they prepare to wow audiences during August at a series of concerts.
These concerts will mark the end of a weeklong residential course – which features eight fruitful days of orchestral practice and rehearsal, plus some well needed recreational time for the young musicians.
Main Orchestra
NCO’s Main Orchestra will start the summer in style. Following their residential course at Wellington College in Crowthorne, the Orchestra will travel to Guildford with guest conductor Hilary Davan Wetton. The players - all aged 14 and under - will perform an impressive collection of pieces including Brahms’ popular and boisterous Academic Festival Overture. G-Live will play host to the concert, which is happening on Saturday 1 August at 7pm. Tickets can be booked directly from the venue via the website or box office on 0844 7701 797.
Under 13 Orchestra
The spotlight will then be on our Under 13 Orchestra, who will be performing two concerts this summer on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 August. The Orchestra will travel to Glasgow for their first concert, following a stay at Sedbergh School in Cumbria.
Glasgow Royal Concert Hall will support 107 enthusiastic and inspiring musicians, alongside Principal Conductor Roger Clarkson and a very special guest. World renowned musician and ex-NCO member Nicola Benedetti will perform alongside our youngsters on what promises to be an extraordinary adventure. This is a concert not to be missed and tickets can be bought online or at the box office on 0141 353 8000.
The next day the Orchestra will return to Leeds Town Hall with a programme full of delights such as Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 and Lehár’s Overture from The Merry Widow. Yorkshire Times have previously praised the NCO for their maturity and professionalism, and this concert is sure to live up to the hype. Book your seats online or via the box office on 0113 224 3801.
Under 12 Orchestra
Our final public concert of the summer will see our Under 12 Orchestra taking to the stage of Cheltenham Town Hall on Sunday 30 August, where an afternoon of electrifying classical pieces awaits the audience. The performance will begin at 3pm and guest conductor Julian Clayton will lead the Orchestra through fantastic repertoire, including Mussorgsky’s A Night on Bare Mountain and Bizet’s Carmen Suite No.1. Tickets are selling online here or on box office number 0844 576 2210.
Each of these concerts promises to enchant audiences young and old. Whatever your plans this summer, make sure they include an evening (or afternoon) with the NCO.
