As the sun sets on Weston’s pier and my first week at NCO, it seems like the perfect opportunity to introduce myself as the organisation’s new Managing Director.
I come to NCO from the world of orchestral management and for the past 11 years I’ve enjoyed leading Sinfonia Cymru, an orchestra designed specifically to support young professional musicians at the start of their careers. I care passionately about music and even more so the individuals who create it, so joining NCO at this exciting time feels like the right fit. I wouldn’t want to do anything else.
In my first week I’ve been getting to grips with how NCO works – the scale of it, the scope of it and the incredible impact it has on so many children. It is a cherished organisation and with good reason. It is also a very hard working one with a fantastic team (or army even) of people who work very hard to make sure that every child has the best possible experience during their time with NCO.
My earliest chance to meet our members and their families comes this Sunday at the first rehearsal of the South Westerlies Regional Orchestra. I am hugely looking forward to getting to know everyone and experiencing what we are all here to do – to nurture and support our wonderfully creative and dedicated young musicians. Plus, I get to drive the NCO van!
Best wishes,
Sophie Lewis
Managing Director
